A Level Drama

For our A-Level in Theatre Studies 40% of our grade is dependant on a 15 minute devised piece. We were given the choice to choose which style of theatre we would explore and therefore, we chose physical theatre. As there was no theme for us to follow we began rehearsals by exploring ideas and it wasn’t long before we came across the exploration of a car crash.

Rather than conforming to the pre conceived rules of what theatre should be we decided that we wanted to deter away from these elements. As a result of this our aim was to create a piece which didn’t follow a storyline and didn’t focus on character development. The montage structure of our piece means that you could take it apart and rearrange the order. The reason behind this is that we wanted the audience to be constantly thinking and to leave having their own opinion on what the piece was about rather than us giving them the answers.

The piece was given the name “Two Chevrons Apart” and it tackles all the factors that might emerge after a car crash happens, such as the breakdown in relationships between family members, the physics of a car crash, the anatomy of death and organ donation.

On the 23rd March at 6pm we will be performing the piece to an audience prior to our exam which will follow a few days after. This is an opportunity to receive feedback on the piece and to showcase the work which we have been working on this term. We will look forward to seeing you there!
