We place great emphasis on the value of extra-curricular trips and activities. Senior Department clubs and societies take place at lunchtimes and after school and provide a different dimension to the education of our students. These clubs help our students to assimilate new skills and find opportunities to work as part of a wider team. There is also potential for our students to develop leadership qualities in these activities.
There are many opportunities for our students to participate in residential activities, both in Britain and overseas. These trips bring our subjects to life and allow students to experience concepts in different environments. Several departments have led major expeditions abroad including the History department, who have made several trans-Atlantic trips to places such as New York, Washington, Salem, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Geography Department has led a recent field trip to Iceland, whilst MFL have visited France and Spain.
Alongside these cultural trips is an annual ski trip. Our students have visited Europe and the USA on recent trips. Here the focus is much more on sporting prowess and energetic fun. Closer to home we have a regular pattern of day trips that includes trips to see various theatre productions as well as events such as the Clothes Show in Birmingham, and visits to important sites such as Eyam in Derbyshire or the Natural History Museum in London.
